SIGNAL BOOST: The Art and Culture of Black Barbering in Wausau

Our friends at People for the Power of Love in Wausau are hosting two black barbers (Cainan Davenport and Michael Linwood) from Taperz Barber Shop in Appleton for “Beyond the Fade: The Art and Culture of Black Barbering”. The event is free and aims to be a day of community growth, connection, and understanding through the art and culture of black barbering. The event is Sunday, July 12 from 10am-4pm at Verve Salon in Weston (2106 Schofield Avenue Suites 2-3, Weston, WI 54476). Social distancing and masks are required. Masks will be provided to those who do not bring one.

Wausau unfortunately does not have a black barber shop, so People for the Power of Love felt it was important to take a first step in bridging that gap and showing that salons in the area care. People for the Power of Love will be set up outside throughout the day for open and honest conversations about ways in which the greater Wausau community can work towards more equity and justice for marginalized communities in the region.

Community members of color can call 715-842-2119 to set up their appointment for a free haircut from Cainan and Michael.
