Exciting news! Proud Theater-Madison is gearing up for the 2024 spring session, offering a unique opportunity for LGBTQIA+ and allied youth to delve into self-expression through theater, music, dance, and spoken word in a safe, enjoyable, and supportive environment.
Open enrollment for Proud Theater-Madison’s 2024 season is set to commence on January 17th, running through February 28th. This vibrant program is open to youth ages 13-18 who identify as part of the LGBTQIA+ community or whose parents are LGBTQIA+, as well as allies. Rehearsals will take place at Trinity Lutheran Church (1904 Winnebago Street, Madison, WI 53704) every Wednesday from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm throughout open enrollment, then increasing to 5:30pm to 9:00pm thereafter.
No auditions, applications, or fees are required to participate in Proud Theater, and prior arts experience is not necessary. Youth can drop by any rehearsal during the open enrollment period to explore and decide if it’s the right fit for them. Food and snacks will be provided at each rehearsal.
Founded in 1999, Proud Theater is an award-winning youth theater program with a mission to change the world through the power of theater and the arts, making a positive impact on the lives of LGBTQIA+ youth through art, heart, and activism. The program empowers youth to share their stories through creating original theatrical works presented to the community throughout the school year. The season typically concludes with a showcase production.
Notably, Proud Theater-Madison is one of the two chapters in Wisconsin, alongside Green Bay.
COVID-19 safety protocols will be observed in accordance with city, state, CDC, and national guidelines.
Proud Theater is a program of Art & Soul Innovations, and the upcoming 2024 season is made possible by generous financial support from the LaForce Family Foundation, the SPL Legacy Foundation, and various community members, partnerships, and organizations across the state.
