Were you miffed that you didn’t learn anything useful about LGBTQ+ health in school? Do you have questions about sexual health or transitioning or navigating healthcare? You’re not alone. Health classes rarely answer the questions that queer youth are asking.
Fortunately, Proud Theater-Wausau has you covered. In association with Dr. Kevin O’Connell, LGBT Health Expert of Aspirus Wausau Family Medicine Residency, we will be hosting a health class of our own on Saturday, November 17 at 11 am.
We will be covering topics such as safe sex, testing, PrEP, HIV medications, talking about hormones and transitioning with a doctor or therapist, consent, contraception, and anything else you have questions about.
This program is not some boring lecture, but a conversation that you will direct. Dr. O’Connell will present some basics about LGBT health, but the conversation will largely be guided by YOU. We will open up the floor for questions at several points in the program (either asked there or written down beforehand to submit anonymously).
After the forum with Dr. O’Connell, we will break for lunch. Following the break, we invite any guests to stay and be a part of the Proud Theater experience. We will be writing scenes based on the things we talk about in the forum with the intent of coming up with a short theater piece. But don’t be afraid! No experience is necessary and our goal is to reflect and expound on what we learned in a fun and engaging way.
***If you are interested in joining us, please contact Matt Waltzman at matthew@proudtheater.org or by messaging to the event. Because of the nature and intended audience of the program, this program is not open to the general public. GSAs and other youth organizations are extremely welcome.***
Intended for queer youth ages 13-18.
